Drifting and scouring

25th January 2025

Not as windy as yesterday but still pretty breezy on the tops. There was some heavy snow overnight, showers this morning and mainly dry this afternoon. Visibility was mostly reasonable so there was a chance to see where the fresh snow was (and wasn’t). Windward aspects are scoured with an icy crust which is breakable in some places but best dealt with using crampons in others Sheltered aspects have some deep drifts of moderately bonded windslab. Snow shoes would have been very useful on Fionn Bheinn today!
