Views of the snow

13th March 2025

Todays site for observations was Fionn Bheinn, with good visibility there is views to hills in all directions so lots of photos today. The snow cover was similar to yesterday on Beinn Eighe with a thin covering of snow on all aspects mostly above 700 metres. A few snow showers are forecast in the early part of the night tonight although amounts are not expected to be significant. Similar conditions are expected tomorrow with some snow melt as the freezing level rises through the day, particularly on slopes exposed to the sun.

The summit of Fionn Bheinn. A few patches of old snow visible on the steep East facing slopes. While the next photos look whiter, distant photos often do and the snow cover on these summit slopes is likely to be similar to elsewhere in the Torridon area.

Looking North across Loch Fannich to the South facing slopes of the Fannichs. From left to right (although some of the peaks are just in the cloud) Sgurr nan Each leading to Sgurr nan Clach Geala, Sgurr Mor, Meall Gorm and An Coileachan

The more Westerly peaks of the Fannichs from left to right A Chailleach, Tom Coinnich and Sgurr Breac

The Fisherfield Mountains at the North-West of the Torridon area.

Beinn Liath Mor on the South side of Glen Torridon.

The Mourisg hills on the south side of Glen Carron with Mourisg at the left hand end.

The corbetts Sgurr a Choire Rainich (848m) and Sgurr a’ Mhuilinn (879m) to the South-East of the Torridon area just high enough to have summit snow.

Looking to the hills on the North side of Glen Strathfarrar, definitely outwith our area but visible from Fion Bheinn on a good day. from left to right Carn nan Gobhar, Sgurr a’choire Ghlais and Sgurr Fhuar-thuill
