Peak of the Bird

31st March 2024

I went up Beinn an Eoin today which gives great views of the North side of the main Torridon mountains. Beinn an Eoin translates from Gaelic to English as Peak of the Bird and it lived up to it’s name today. I thought that I was doing well seeing 2 ptarmigan on a minor top on the ridge but I think that they were trumped by the golden eagle perched on the ridge near the summit. I was slightly too slow to get a photo of it sitting there but managed to get some photos of it in flight.

The snowpack on Beinn an Eoin was limited and patchy but there was enough to see that it had refrozen overnight, was softening as the temperature rose today and that stability is good.

Lovely photo of the Ptarmigan, especially the female coming into her spring plumage.
