Warming up

23rd December 2024

The freezing level rose quickly today and there was some rain at all elevations in the afternoon. Visibility remained poor at summit level.

Instabilities are present in the snowpack today but stability will improve over the next few days as the snowpack consolidates and thaws.

From the approach to Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe.

This photo shows the localised nature of the snow cover.

Spot the ptarmigan. They’re well camouflaged in these conditions.

The ptarmigan is easier to see in this photo when I’m a little closer and zoomed in a bit. It’s moved down and right about a metre since the previous photo.

Ptarmigan tracks. There were at least 3 in this area.
