A sunny morning

11th February 2024

A clear, sunny start to the day, showing Torridon at its best. While there was only a thin cover of snow, all exposed rock and grass had a coating of rime making everything look particularly white in the bright sunshine. Cloud developed through the day, particularly over the more coastal mountains. The freezing level was around summit level for most of the day, with a gradual thaw taking place, particularly noticeable a lower elevations.

A return to snow showers with a South-Westerly wind tomorrow. More details in the report.

A range of photos from across the Torridon area today.

Looking East along Beinn Eighe to Sgurr Fhir Duibhe. The crags covered in a thick coat of rime. While cloud had begun to cover the hills here, the Fannichs still in Sunshine in the background.

Liathach

The main Fannaich mountains (L - R: Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich, Sgurr Mor and Carn na Criche) in the NE of the Torridon forecast area. Most snow remains on NE to SE aspects, old snow, despite the more recent Easterly winds. Otherwise, it is a generally shallow snow cover lying on bare ground.
