The thaw continues

20th December 2022

Wet rain showers for much of the day with the snow pack depleting at a rapid rate. Less snow on the tops than I expected so perhaps that was down to how I interpreted the forecast or the freezing level was slightly higher than I expected. It has been a grey day with poor visibility, the higher summits were not visible for much of the time.

I actually drove round towards Applecross this morning in the hope that I’d minimise my exposure to the heavy rain and wild winds but the road department had the road closed – I wonder where they found the snow!

As I drove back to Kinlochewe I got views into Beinn Bhan (895m), as you can see it is well stripped.

Torridon has lost lots of snow.

Our classic view of Liathach.
