A Wintery Day

26th December 2022

It definitely felt like winter today with snow down to glen level and frequent prolonged snow showers.  Snow cover here in Torridon for the most part is fairly superficial as can be seen on the photo below.  This was taken on one of the few, brief, clear spells looking across to Sgurr a Ghlas Leathaid (844m) from Achnasheen.

Underfoot conditions are still pretty soggy in places with the ground underneath the fresh snow pretty saturated.  The photo below was taken around 450m on Fionn Bheinn.  Even with poor visibility on the tops, there were still several groups heading up the hill for their Boxing Day Adventure:-)

Below an example of the unstable fresh windslab deposits on East aspects above 700m.

Interesting driving conditions with snow down to Kinlochewe Village @ 30m above sea level.
