Dry and bright

25th December 2021

A fine but cold day on the hill this Christmas day. Winds have been very strong with new wind slab accumulating on wind sheltered North-West to North aspects above 800 meters. These instabilities are isolated but where the wind slab is beginning to gain depth they are becoming of some concern. Otherwise paths are generally clear of snow with occasional icy stretches and wind exposed aspects above 600m are scouring.

A distinct snow line at 600m.

Drifting snow and summit cloud.

Liathach

Liathach again, this side of the hill on view is becoming wind scoured, and the wind transported scoured snow is coming to rest, building wind slab onto high wind sheltered aspects on gully tops and coire rims which are out of view.
