Wet and wintry later.

10th March 2020

A nice enough day on the hill this morning as the rain showers petered out and there were some occasional bright periods. The snow pack is moist and we have had a couple of avalanches reported.  The freezing level is lowering this afternoon so stability within the older snow pack will improve. High winds are forecast to continue with a heavy band of snow showers expected overnight so we will get fresh wind slab forming on higher North through to East aspects.

Thawing conditions, snow bridges over streams are fragile.

There were some brighter periods this morning.

Many thanks to Mike Robertson who sent us in this photo of avalanche debris on Beinn Alligin. We much appreciate you all reporting an avalanche, it does takes some time but we really do like to receive these reports. You just have to click on the button ‘Report an Avalanche ” which is easily found along upper top, right of centre on our our web site. Any good photos are also greatly appreciated.
