Batten down the hatches.

5th January 2020

Gales and heavy rain showers up here today and storm force wind are forecast to continue. Batten down the hatches is a nautical term – when ships were about to enter rough sea the Captain would order the crew to batten down the hatches then wait and hope for the storm to pass.

There is not much snow around and the existing older snow pack is depleting rapidly in this thaw.

A day of strong winds, poor visibility and a depleting snow pack.

Red deer hinds sheltering in the coire.

Stream and burns are running high.
