Bright and Breezy!

5th April 2019

Relatively mild and lots of sunshine today, but feeling cool in the strong Easterly wind. Banks of cloud sat over the summits and the views were kind of hazy. The snow is now thawing at most levels as the freezing level rises and there is a steady general consolidation of the snowpack, although instabilities persist in areas of recently deposited windslab. There is little snow left below 600m.

The Fannaich mountains above Loch a’ Bhraoin. There is a reasonable snow cover on most aspects above 650m.

Little evidence of snow drifting in the strong wind since the snowpack is becoming moist as the freezing level rises through the day.

Only minor new cornice growth noted.
