Outbreaks of snow.

16th March 2019

A day of fresh winds and poor visibility on the tops. We had moderate snow showers and the freezing level is still around the 450 – 500 metre level.  Below 300 metres there is hardly any snow but it soon accumulates on higher ground.  At first paths are clear but trail breaking becomes quite hard going the higher up one goes and there is an icy breakable crust on some wind scoured ribs and ridges. There were quite a few cars in the various car parking spaces along the glen so while I did not meet anyone, I appreciated the relatively fresh trail into Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe this morning!

Graupel in the snow pack today.

Views were not great in Coire An Laoigh.

Looking back up towards Stuc Coire an Laoigh, – the snow line is around 300 metres.

Liathach was visible at times.
