A Grand Finale

14th April 2018

What a lovely day to finish on in Glen Torridon. There is a summery feel in the air – busy with tourists, walkers, bikers, cyclists and NC500s! 16C in the glen today and lovely warm sunshine. The winter is definitely over…….

Today is our final forecast and blog for Torridon. Many thanks to all who followed our blog this season and particularly to those that made comments. It’s been a ‘proper’ winter with plenty snow and good ice throughout the season. Tough conditions at times, but always beautiful and a pleasure to be out in the mountains. We hope you all have a great summer and we’ll see you next winter. All the best.

The Torridon Forecasting Team.

Sandy, Cube, Colin and me (Andy).

Always a good sign that Spring is here when you can sit outside to have your coffee and cake with a snowy Beinn Eighe in the background! At the Kinlochewe service station. Check it out…

The East end of Beinn Eighe. Good snow cover remains in places on the more inland mountains.

Liathach and Beinn Eighe from Glen Torridon. Coire an Laoigh at the left end of Beinn Eighe is a popular location for our snowpack observations throughout the winter.

Pyramid Buttress, snow covered Spidean a’ Choire Leith (the highest point on Liathach) and Toll a’ Meitheach.

At 17C in Torridon village at sea level, I’d have thought it too hot for bouldering, but……

A summery looking Beinn Alligin above Upper Loch Torridon.

The weather looks great! I’d like to take my Winnebago for a trip on your beautiful North Coast 500. Would now be a good time?

(BTW. Did you mention cake? Mmm, cake…..)

Well all good things come to an end – but thankfully only for eight months or so.

It has been a truly beautiful winter – winter as it should be with so many epic pictures. Pictures and reports of wild, wet, stormy days and others of true mountain grandeur.

Evenings will not just be the same for a while. Thanks to all six teams from the west to the east – a job so well done with insight, expertise and at times with humour.

Enjoy your spring, summer and autumn. Looking forward in due course to reports for the 2018/2019 season.
