Warm Azores Air

17th February 2017

Feels like back to square one in this ‘snakes and ladders’ winter. Most mountains in the North West are nearly bare. And the warm spell is set to continue, with the added bonus of persistent rain!

(Above)  Patchy snow cover in the Northern coires of Beinn Eighe; Creag Dhubh on the left, Ruadh-stac Beag centre and Ruadh-stac Mor on the right. Inversion cloud rolling in from the South as warm moist air over-rides cooler air below at summit level.

(Above)  A bit of early morning sun on Creag Dubh and Ruadh-stac Beag reveals the extent of the snow loss over the previous two days.

(Above)  The bare southern slopes of Slioch on the left and the Fannaich mountains background right.
