4th March 2016

Persistent light wintry showers after a bright start. Some snow redistribution in the strong North-East wind observed at summit levels. The breakable crust was tiresome!

IMGP6279 Stitch (1024x441)

Nice first thing this morning. Good snow cover on all aspects, most of which is breakable crust!

IMGP6282 (1024x529)

East end of Liathach. Some old single point avalanches and cornice collapse slides visible mainly on South-East to South aspects, more than likely from Wednesday.

IMGP6286 (1024x548)

The dreaded breakable crust! The worst kind where it nearly takes your weight, but……

IMGP6288 (1024x512)

Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe – the snow profile site. Large refrozen sagging cornices visible at the low point on the ridge above a steep South-East aspect slope.

IMGP6290 (1024x512)

Ice climbs hanging in there on Pyramid Buttress, south side Liathach.
