Lochs and Mountains Up North
21st January 2025
Name those hills.
After a quick look into the Fannaich mountains this morning, followed a drive up north into Coigach and Assynt for some photos of the coastal hills. Although these hills are well outwith the Torridon forecast area, they are surprisingly popular in winter, both with walkers and climbers.
No fresh summit snow was observed in the Fannaichs (up to 1110m) despite a forecast for a reasonable likelihood of some, particularly last night. A repeat for tomoorow; largely dry, although a light snow shower at summit levels can’t be ruled out, again most likely overnight. Amounts would be insignificant.
So again, there is currently insufficient snow for an avalanche hazard and no avalanche reports will be published until conditions change.

(Above) Similarly with Sgurr Breac, Toman Coinnich and A’ Chailleach – no snow.

Lochs and Mountains. A lovely panorama from the top of Knockan Crag.
