Still cold today

11th January 2025

After another cold start temperatures started to slowly rise today. A trend that will continue tomorrow as the freezing level is forecast to rise above the summits. Liathach was the site for todays observations. A lot of soft snow remains at all elevations and I was grateful for sharing the trail breaking today. There is some variability in the extent of windslab deposits across the Torridon area, these areas are now consolidating a trend that will continue as the freezing level rises. Increasing Southerly winds will accompany the warmer temperatures and thaw conditions will prevail. However the snow at most elevations will remain soft and progress will still be hard work. Photos show cover around the Glen Torridon area, this will change rapidly over the next few days.

Ice on the South side of Liatahc, unfortunately this wouldn’t be here much longer as the freezing level rises tomorrow.
