Wintery above 800 metres

Unexpected snowfall overnight resulted in the hills looking whiter than expected first thing. Above 800 metres, on all aspects, a cosmetic dusting of fresh snow is mainly overlying bare ground or the existing old snowpack which is firm throughout. We are due some inclement weather overnight with snow down to 400 metres and gale force winds. These winds will ease through the day as the freezing level rises above the summits once again.
