Snowshoeing in the Fannaichs
17th December 2022
Due to significant snow redistribution today, combined with snow showers, unstable windslab developed in wind sheltered locations, mostly North to East aspects at higher elevations. Deep soft snow continues to plague the intrepid winter mountaineer. Thighs like the rear end of a racehorse would help trail breaking – or skis, or snowshoes! Unstable windslab will persist though tomorrow.
(Above) Plenty deer prints on either side of the bridge, but none on the bridge itself! Looking into the cloudy summits of Sgurr Breac on the right and Sgurr nan Clach Geala – Meall a’Chrasgaidh on the left.
(Above) Loch a’Bhraoin and a cloudy Slioch in the far distance.
(Above) Snowshoes or skis recommended for the Fannaichs. No other walkers out today in the vicinity, but a hoard of skiers went up Meall an t’Sithe in the background.
(Above) Much of the ‘cloud’ over Sgurr Breac and Sgurr nan Clach Geala was spindrift.
(Above) The snow showers eased a bit by lunchtime giving the opportunity for good views and enough ‘blue to knit a sailor’s Guernsey’….
