Post Storm Corrie
31st January 2022
The day was somewhat calmer after the passage of Storm Corrie, leaving moderate winds of a mainly North-Westerly flow. Windchill was biting, making for a cold feel even at relatively low elevations (we were just at 600 metres today). A dusting of snow was present at 300 metres and above.
Some squally showers passed through for most of the day leaving small accumulations of new snow and Graupel (pictured), although these remained inconsequential as far as avalanche hazard is concerned.
The freezing level is due to rise well above the summits overnight along with heavy rain, so we anticipate thaw conditions to prevail with snow dissipating rapidly to isolated old patches once more.
