A Glorious day with strengthening cold southerly winds
9th April 2015
A glorious day in Torridon and the North West. Snow cover is disappearing fast but accumulations are still present on North-East to South-East aspects above 700 metres.
The snowpack is pretty stable in general even though it is soft in the surface layers. Some large cornices are still present above easterly aspects and will become increasingly unstable, so keep alert if you’re route is threatened by them from above. Snow-creep glide cracks are now appearing on many steep snow slopes, these indicate a potential full depth avalanche possibility, but when and if they occur is the big question !!
