Snow Covered Mountains
24th December 2021
Winter returns to the North West Highlands. It felt full on this morning with a combination of cloud, below zero temperatures, a strong cold Easterly, snow and spindrift! However, the cloud, rain, sleet and snow cleared by early afternoon to give a fine end to the day, although remaining cold and windy. There is a general shallow covering of fresh snow on all aspects above 600m. Areas of windslab have accumulated in sheltered terrain, some with significant depth, but not very extensive. The old snow remains firm and icy in places.
(Above) The North top of Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich (830m.) showing a dusting of snow on the windward Easterly aspects.
(Above) Summit cairn of the North top, BLMF. Rime is building on the windward (left) side of the cairn, with a snow drift accumulating on the wind sheltered side.
(Above) As good as it got looking into the NE aspects of Carn na Criche (left) and Meall a’ Chrasgaidh. Of course, it waited to clear after I was out…!
