A Bitterly Cold Day

Snow showers and a fresh to strong North wind persisted throughout the day, although bright between showers with some blue and sunshine! Bitterly cold (-5C at 800m.) in the wind giving a severe windchill at higher exposed elevations. The snowpack is correspondingly cold with instabilities persisting in localised areas of windslab in steep locations sheltered from the wind. In general, the snow cover remains shallow, scoured on exposed terrain and icy in places.
Above. Between showers. Slioch on the left and Mullach Coire Mhic Fhearchair and Sgurr Ban on the right.
Above. Icy patha and breakable crust exists due to a brief thaw and re-freeze during last Thursday night.
Above. A’ Chailleach, Fannaich mountains. Most snow remains at height on sheltered aspects. Spindrift is obvious in the strong North wind after the passing of a snow shower.
