Covid-19

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service would recommend that those wishing to enjoy the winter mountains refer to Mountaineering Scotland and Scottish Government advice regarding Covid-19 and outdoor activities.

Below are some panoramas to show the extent of the snow cover (or not!) on selected mountains in the North West. Note that Beinn Dearg, Ben Wyvis and An Teallach are outwith our forecast area. Bear in mind that most of the remaining old snow cover was deposited end of November, on a North/North West airflow hence there is more snow on mountains to the north and east of the Torridon area and particularly away from a coastal influence.

Southerly aspects of the Ullapool Beinn Dearg on the left and Am Faocagach on the right.

The distant and snowy North-West side of Ben Wyvis with Loch Glascarnoch mid ground. The snow here was deposited more recently than on mountains further west, on a South-East airflow, the same period that snow was deposited in the Cairngorms.

The coastal mountain of An Teallach on the left with Loch Broom and Beinn Mhor na Coigich on the right. Little snow remaining, mainly on East to South aspects and snowless on the lower coastal hills further north.

The Fannaich mountains of (left to right), Sgurr Mor (1110m.), Carn na Criche (961m.) and Meall a’ Chrasgaidh (934m.).
