New Season in Torridon
11th December 2020
Welcome all to the SAIS forecasting 2020/21 season. I hope you had as good a summer as possible in these Covid restricted times.
Covid-19
The Scottish Avalanche Information Service would recommend that those wishing to enjoy the winter mountains refer to Mountaineering Scotland and Scottish Government advice regarding Covid-19 and outdoor activities.
It was a lovely day in Torridon to start the season; great views but little snow I’m afraid. The snow that remains fell at the beginning of the month and has been subjected to freeze thaw cycles since. Most snow remains above 750m on East to South aspects and is shallow and stable, crusty at summit levels and icy in places.

That’s a wonderful shot of Liathach! Brings some joy on a dark, gloomy and wet Aberdeen day.
