All Gone!

Summer conditions! Today was such a contrast to yesterday morning when it felt relatively wintry. No snow was observed on the Torridon and Applecross summits today except for the odd very small patch of old snow on Beinn Eighe. Remaining mild in the short term with no significant snowfall forecast.
The prominent hill on the right is Ben Sheildaig (534m), direcly above Sheildaig village. This hill is currently for sale and the Woodland Trust Scotland is trying to raise funds to purchase it. It has an outstanding and beautiful remnant Caledonian pinewood and birchwood – a rare combination on the coast and worth conserving. Check out the trust’s website for more information.
Red Squirrels have been successfully re-introduced to the Shieldaig pinewoods.
The eastern coires of Sgurr a Chaorachain behind Beinn Bhan above the Bealach na Ba road. The buttress centre profile is that of Na Coichan and a rock climb called ‘Cioch Nose’. The last time I climbed it was as a birthday ‘treat’ under similar conditions of cloud, rain and mild – but that was mid June!

Cloud base was lower on the more coastal mountains of Beinn Alligin and the west end of Liathach above Upper Loch Torridon.
