Seriously Cold!

The cold Easterly airflow is persisting, feeding in quite intense snow showers, particularly on the more eastern mountains. -2.5C at sea level this morning in Ullapool and -8C at the snow profile site at 650m in the Fannaichs with wind speeds gusting 30mph during the showers = severe windchill! Significant accumulations of windslab are building on sheltered lee aspects with cross loading occurring.
A rare bright spell between snow showers on the way out – typical… The dam on the river is one of many in the region where water is diverted east into Loch Glascarnoch where it is ultimately piped underground south to the hydro power stations of Loch Luichart.
Above – More typical of today on the hill. Significant drifting of snow with brief whiteout conditions during the snow showers.
Evidence of fresh drifting. Snow tails in the lee of objects like heather clumps and boulders.
