Streaky Bacon!
28th January 2018
Bacon – the vegetarian’s Achilles heel. It occurred to me that the patchy and thawing snowpack at lower levels looked like streaky bacon in some areas where it lingers in long runnels. And then the hunger pangs started! Ahh, what I’d do for a crispy bacon roll – a white bap with butter…. The wet snowpack remains reasonable above 750m. and the dusting of fresh overnight snow soon thawed through the day. Colder with blustery snow showers tomorrow.
Looking out of Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe below the cloud base. The ‘streaky bacon’ snow runnels on the south slopes of Sgurr nan Fhir Duibhe. Ok, use your imagination!
A dusting of fresh snow on the summits of Liathach is evident early morning. More streaks?
Then the cloud lowered and the drizzle arrived!
Water saturated lichens saturates the colour purple in this type of map lichen. Usually seen on the quartzite only.
Good luck to this group heading up out of Coire an Laoigh presumably onto the Beinn Eighe main ridge. More persistent rain at all levels forecast for the afternoon and doubtful that the cloud will lift.
