Cloudy and Mild
19th February 2017
Little change in the very patchy snowpack.
(Above)Â Summit cloud boiling over into Toll an Lochain, A’ Chailleach in the Fannaich mountains.
(Above)Â Spot Lochivraon bothy at the head of Loch a’ Bhraoin. The footpath along the side of the loch leads past the bothy and through to Kinlochewe and Torridon over the Bealach Gorm (470m) Once used regularly as access between Lochbroom and Kinlochewe parishes of Ross Shire.

(Above) Ever wondered what happens to our furry friends in the winter mountains under snow cover? No, well me neither. But, here is evidence – an exposed ‘tunnel’ run of a vole or mouse or shrew that would have previously been under the snow. Obviously lined with dead vegetation to protect from contact with the snow. Bear in mind that under snow cover, the ground surface is normally maintained at O°C. And below ground, it will be very sheltered in the boulders. What a great life!
