Donner and Blitzen!

Not Santa’s reindeer, but thunder and lightning accompanied today’s very intense and frequent wintery showers. Conditions were atrocious during the showers, with blizzard conditions, but relatively pleasant in between. The mountains are looking very wintery now, with significant drifting in sheltered lee areas. Rain tomorrow for a time before colder conditions return and the wind will increase to storm force by the afternoon.
Baton the hatches as this thundery shower approaches!
Meall a’ Chrasgaidh and Carn na Criche emerge after a shower. Snow accumulating on the lee aspects with spindrift in the gale force gusty wind.
The scoured windward side of Beinn Dearg and Am Faochagach. Bare areas as the wind accelerates over the summits.
Blizzard conditions. Always occur at the snow profile site!

A herd of stags. Red deer down at lower levels. They are ‘fed’ by the keepers during winter.
Golder Eagle – honest. Saw two eagles today and some ptarmigan flying for cover ahead of an approaching shower.
