Mild and Wet
11th March 2016
Such a contrast to yesterday. Rapidly diminishing snowpack; snowline around 650 metres. All the signs of thawing conditions are obvious. Not much change expected.
Liathach. Signs of falling ice and rock debris on the gully run-outs.
Liathach; Pyramid Buttress and Toll a’ Meitheach. Some ice hanging in there, but for how much longer?
Even less snow remains on the more coastal hills of Beinn Alligin and west end of Liathach above Loch Torridon.
Cloud descending onto the top of Beinn Bhan, Applecross, ahead of a particularly heavy spell of rain.
Cornices will be prone to collapse during the thaw, although this cornice on Sgurr a’ Chaorachain is pretty stable at the moment.
