Continued Snow Showers

21st November 2024

A day of frequent snow showers, occasionally heavy, with only fleeting breaks between and the odd rumble of thunder during the more intense showers this morning.  Areas of unstable windslab have gradually gained depth and extent overnight and throughout today – check out the Torridon Avalanche Forecast page on our website.

The first three photos below were taken this morning during one of the few breaks between snow showers. Not great, but paints a picture of good snow cover at all elevations with some snow redistribution and deposition occurring below ridge crests and round coire rims, despite being on the more windward Northerly aspects.

(Above) A glimpse into the Western Fannaich mountains from the Fain. Left to right; Sgurr Breac, Toman Coinnich and A’ Chailleach.

(Above) Meall an t-Sithe, above the Fain. Even at 600m. there is obvious snow redistribution leading to accumulations of windslab on lee aspects – the left (south to south-east) side of wind exposed terrain features.

The Northerly aspects of Meall a’ Chrasgaidh in the Fannaichs. Deep snow persists at lower elevations. Hard work on foot!
