Mild overnight

27th March 2026

After a wintery day yesterday, the freezing level rose above the summits overnight which has helped consolidate the snowpack. Weaknesses are still present however, mainly in layers of graupel (see photos below).

The temperature dropped again today and there was a refreeze at higher elevations. There were a few snow showers but fresh accumulations were minimal.

There was a deep layer of graupel in a gully. Although it was thawing it still had poor cohesion and was a weak layer.

The video below shows a weak layer of graupel below a more cohesive surface layer.

Much deeper snow in a gully than on the slopes either side.
