The Fannichs
18th February 2026
A journey to the East side of the Torridon area today, the Fannich hills.
There are still deposits of recent windslab on North-East through to South-East aspects, from the snowfall that came in a couple of days ago on North westerly winds. This is now being re-distributed back over, onto West to Northerly aspects by the strong to gale force South Easterly winds. See the forecast for more detail.
The Tollomuick hills from the Ullapool road
Sgurr Mor and Carn na Criche
Wind sheltered locations, and localised deposition.
The NE ridge of Sgurr Mor
The NW aspect of Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich
Looking North to An Teallach
Wind sculpted snow, showing erosion, and snow transport.
Meall a Chrasgaidh, showing recent deposition on a wind sheltered Easterly aspect. Most prominent on the roll over, between shadow and sun.
The South Eastern sides of Beinn Eighe, from Creag Dubh, to Sgurr nan Fhir Duibhe

Was on those hills today, walking in from Lochdrum. Shame not to meet you … or anyone else today, though some footprints some of which perhaps yours on the track on my way out.
The wind was certainly doing its work today, very hard to stand up on Sgurr Mor!

Hello Kenny, yes, windy on the tops which was re-distributing the snow. I did see someone heading up the East face of Meall a Chrasgaidh. Perhaps that was you ?

I think that may have been someone on an eMTB whose tracks I followed for a long way. I went up to Carn a Criche via the bealach between it and Meall a Chrasgaidh, doing my best to pick a line that avoided the recent snow deposition you remarked about above!
