Both sides of Liathach

14th February 2026

Fresh snow, light winds and blue skies this morning. It gradually got cloudier as the day went on.

The older snow remains frozen and very firm. The fresh snow fell yesterday afternoon and evening with fairly light winds and is mostly soft, unconsolidated and stable on all aspects. Near higher summits and ridges there are localised areas of moderately bonded windslab.

Increasing winds and  fresh snow in the next 24 hours will lead to a build up of windslab with the soft snow from today potentially acting as a weak layer.

Some nice early morning light for the first few shots.

About 4cm of soft unconsolidated snow on firm older snow.
