Fionn Bheinn

8th January 2026

Todays location for observations was Fionn Bheinn. There has been a period of slow consolidation of the snowpack. The snowpack has begun to refreeze at lower elevations (and in car parks) following a slightly milder spell. The temperature was just below freezing at most elevations today, with little change with height (the temperature reached -1.8 degrees Celsius at our weather station at 925m on Fionn Bheinn) The summit was also in the cloud and this moisture was also helping to consolidate the snowpack where this was the case. However instabilities were noted at our snow profile site at 700 metres and despite a consolidating trend are still present on many slopes at different altitudes.

While travel by ski is getting easier as the snow surface is becoming firmer, walking is still very hard going in the deep snow.

The roads have been cleared and are in generally good condition given the snow we have. However parking is not so easy, with many car parks not yet cleared, be prepared to dig yourself a parking space in the Torridon area.

Our weather station at 925m on Fionn Bheinn, https://holfuy.com/en/weather/1529 . The riming grows into the wind and is on the North side indicating mainly northerly winds here, despite a period of strong South westerlies on Tuesday morning.
