Winter Solstice

21st December 2025

It’s always a bonus in the North-West when we get a dry, clear and bright day. Particularly so, as today marked the winter solstice – the shortest day and longest night of the year.

A small amount of snow still remains in the Torridon forecast area mainly confined to North and East facing corrie rims and steep slopes on the same aspects above around 900m. This snow is well consolidated and will remain firm in steep shady locations presenting a slip hazard for the ill equipped.

The photos below give a flavour of where this snow lies.

The East facing corries of Beinn Bhan (895m) holding a thin ribbon of snow on the corrie rim.
