Fog in the Fannaichs
25th March 2025
It was a mild day of drizzly showers, some heavier burst of rain at times and hill fog with fluctuating cloud bases from as low as 500m. to above most of the summits during infrequent bright spells. The mild, cloudy and breezy conditions will extend through tomorrow, although, the freezing level is forecast to briefly lower to around 1000m. by daybreak. Expect some hill drizzle throughout the day.
Largely bare hills in the Fannaichs, with patches of thawing old snow lingering around the highest summits above 850m. on some NW to NE aspects.
The photos below were taken during a brief bright spell. Good timing for once!
(Above) The NW aspect of snowless Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich (954m.).
(Above 2 Photos) Old patches of snow holding onto the NE aspects of Meall a’ Chrasgaidh (right) and Carn na Criche. It will have to let go soon….
As good as it got on Sgurr Mor (1110m.). The cloud hugged the summit of the highest peak in the Torridon forecast area for the time I was out and about.
