Sgorr Ruadh and Fuar Tholl
3rd March 2025
Decided to see what if any snow is left in the Southern mountains of Torridons forecast area today. Last week, when looking across to these hills they seemed to have caught a little more of the fresh snow then. Sadly, they were looking very snow free today, with last nights warmer weather and rain probably taking a lot of the cosmetic recent wet snow off them.
The next couple of days do not look good for what small amount of snow remains in the Torridon hills. Very mild and wet weather, with the extra thawing power of high winds. Not only will the snow have a warm shower on it, it will also have a powerful hair dryer !
The real wet weather is due to set in tomorrow mid afternoon, and by then the winds will be Storm force on the summits. Sounds like an early start and a cafe afternoon to me.
Creag Dhubh this morning.
The Glencarron and Glenuig forest hills. Moruisg on the far right.
Fuar Tholl North East aspect. Almost no snow remaining.
Sgorr Ruadh Easterly aspects. Again, little if any snow.
Coire Lair, with Sgorr Ruadh on the left and the lovely ridge of Beinn Liath Mhor on the right. A lovely remote feel to this relatively easily accessible coire.
A type of Prickly Heath shrub on the walk in, with last years berries. Not something I have often seen wild in Scotland.

Prickly Heath native to Chile and other parts of Southern Hemisphere. Reaching invasive species status I believe even more than Rhododendron in parts of Skye. Could change hillsides in years to come!
