Still Thawing

4th February 2025

Mild temperatures and rain overnight mean the snow cover is further depleted. The rain did turn to snow above around 700 metres this morning before clearing, however the freezing level remained just above the summits and snow immediately melted with no new accumulations. The clear spell was well timed with arrival at the summit for some photos of the remaining snow in the area. After a brighter spell further showers developed in the afternoon, again snow above around 700 metres. Snow showers are expected overnight before clearing to give a dry day tomorrow. Any new snow deposits will be limited with much of it falling on bare ground. High pressure is forecast to build from Thursday, though Thursday will remain windy in the Torridon area.

Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe. There is a similar picture in the last 2 days blogs which shows the rate of snow melt we have had in Torridon.

Looking down the East ridge of Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe, most snow remains around coire rims and in gullies.
