A little new snow

27th March 2024

Light snowfall throughout the day today. Total accumulations of new snow are very small, only a dusting in many places. Photos today were taken around midday with some more snow falling later in the day, however they give an idea of the limited extent of the new snow. The older snowpack, while shallow is very firm and icy in most locations.

A mainly dry day tomorrow with fresh Easterly winds increasing in strength, some rain developing near the end of the day as the freezing level rises to around summit level.

Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe at around midday today. There was some further snow this afternoon although fresh snow amounts remain small.

Looking down the East ridge of Creag Dhubh Beinn Eighe late morning. Lighter patches are very small amounts of new snow on the right hand as any new snow drifted from left to right across the picture to land on Westerly aspects on strong Easterly winds.

A closer look at the North-East facing slopes which look white on the top photo. The reality is the snowpack is still shallow, although cover is reasonable and it is also very firm.

As much of Slioch as was visible today.
