Sunshine and Showers

12th February 2024

Showers throughout the day, wintry above 550m. and more intense in the afternoon. Limited deposits of windslab are building on wind sheltered locations at higher elevations. Otherwise, the existing snow cover is shallow and lies predominantly on bare ground. Patches of old snow remain very firm. Localised areas of moderately bonded windslab will continue to build mainly overnight and through the morning tomorrow. Check the Torridon avalanche reports for more details.

(Above) There is an overall dusting of fresh snow largely above 500m, but gaining depth mainly on NE to E aspects where it overlies patches of firm old snow.

(Above) A shower clears the Beinn Dearg range. The snowline is obvious in this photo at around 500m on a sunny southerly aspect.
