Hill Fog and Drizzle

2nd February 2022

It was a mild and miserable day in the Fannaichs; fresh to strong SW wind, persistent hill fog and periods of light rain and drizzle at all levels, with heavier rain in the afternoon. Not much to see, so photos are a bit dull!

Tomorrow afternoon looks very wintry with summit gales initially, significant snowfall and summit air temperature dropping from +2C to -2C in a matter of a few hours. Not a day to be out on the higher summits…!

(Above 2 photos) Not particularly inspiring looking towards Sgurr Breac and A’ Chailleach at the SW end of the Fannaichs.

(Below 2 photos) Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich. I drove to the most NE end of our area to try and outflank the cloud and drizzle and got a fleeting glimpse of remnant thawing snow from the recent dusting, lingering on high NE to E aspects. The biggest patch in the second photo below will be of the well bonded older snow
