Thawing at most heights today.

17th February 2020

I was on Mullach an Rathain on Liatach today. My high point was 800 metres due to the strong Westerly winds. At this height the snow pack was thawing and consolidating. The air temperature here was 0.8 degrees, so the summit temperatures are below freezing.

Photo taken at about 450 metres on approach to the coire. A lot of the snow is now flowing of the mountain!

Slightly more snow once into the coire.

My high point today at 800 metres. The slopes on the left have been exposed to the recent winds and are bare of snow, the slopes on the right (North-East aspect) are sheltered and still have plenty snow.

Looking into Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe which was holding more snow than Liatach.
