A Dusting of Fresh Snow

3rd January 2020

There was not as much snow on the ground as expected today. It seemed like that initial snowy edge to the cold front yesterday evening didn’t produce and thereafter, the showers were fast moving and blustery with very strong winds blowing most of the snow off exposed areas. The showers were mostly of graupel at higher elevations. Nice and bright between the showers.

Little snow on Maol Chean-dearg and Beinn Damh. Next shower moving up Glen Torridon on the right.

Liathach emerging from a particularly intense wintry shower.

Beinn Eighe with Coire an Laoigh on the left and the Sgurr nan Fhir Duibhe – Creag Dhubh ridge with the ‘Black Carls’ centre. Most snow is lying on East to South aspects above 600m.

When you get up and close, there is only a dusting of fresh snow in Coire an Laoigh..

Exposed summits and summit ridges wind scoured and blown clear of snow.
