Sunshine and Showers

21st December 2019

Cooler today, but still relatively mild for this time of year. Showers petered out through the afternoon, but not before turning wintry on the higher summits in the morning. A dusting of fresh snow obvious on the tops on the more inland mountains. However, the snowpack remains depleted, becoming patchy with some summits remaining bare.

Creag Dhubh at the east end of Beinn Eighe – the location for todays snowpack observations. No signs of fresh snow.

Most snow remaining in runnels and gullies, along ridge crests and around coire rims, mainly above 700m.

East ridge of Creag Dhubh. Not a bad day to be out in the hills with a bit of sunshine between showers. Sgurr nan Fhir Duibhe (963m) on the left background.

Looking NE across Kinlochewe to a pretty bare Fionn Beinn (in the middle) above Achnasheen. There will be more snow on the hidden Northerly aspects.
