Intense Squally Showers

3rd March 2019

Frequent showers, wintry on the higher tops with sleet and wet snow. Brighter intervals through the afternoon as the showers became more scattered and the SW gales eased a bit too! Overnight gusts reached 117mph on Sgurr a’ Chaorachain (776m), Applecross, with winds typically in the 70-80mphs (max 87mph) for a period. Not much fresh snow to report as it remained relatively mild; 8C in the glens.

A touch of fresh snow above 800m on Beinn Liath Mhor Fannaich this morning.

Sgurr Ban (970m) in the cloud and Sgurr nan Fhir Duibhe (963m)

(Above 2 photos) Similar dusting of fresh snow above 800m on the east end of Beinn Eighe.

The rivers and burns are up due to the heavy overnight rain.

Liathach from the glen with cloud base around 850m. Snow? What snow…..?

Again, not much fresh snow in Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe. Stuc Coire an Laoigh (840m) on the left and Spidean Coire nan Clach (993m) on the right.

Bare looking hills on the south side of Glen Torridon.
