Wintry Showers Persist.

1st February 2018

A blustery day, with quite intense wintry showers, mainly of graupel. Drifting snow in the gale force Northerlies, although some snow has been blown to lower levels and melted. However, areas of windslab are building in steep wind sheltered areas.

Creag Dhubh, Beinn Eighe. Obvious areas of wind scouring on exposed ridges and snow deposition on sheltered slopes.

Snow level around 450m on Liathach and quite superficial at lower elevations.

The next wintry shower trundles up Glen Torridon.

Weaknesses based around layers of graupel are present in the windslab.

Good snow cover at higher elevations in Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe, the location for today’s snow profile
