Heat in the Sun!

2nd February 2018

A pleasant day to be out on the summit ridges. Some obvious weak layers based around unconsolidated graupel persists in localised areas of windslab. More snow forecast for overnight and through tomorrow, with snow lying above 500 metres or so.

Light wintry showers petered out by mid morning. Fresh snow obvious on the south Torridon hills.

Good snow cover in upper Coire an Laoigh, Beinn Eighe. Good route choice required to avoid areas of weakly bonded windslab on the larger open slopes.

Firm snow on exposed ridges.

There is heat in the February sun! Rollerball activity from sun induced single point releases on Southerly aspects.

Broken cloud on the summit ridges at times.

Great views along the Beinn Eighe ridge when the cloud lifted.

Snow distribution on Liathach and Beinn Eighe. Snow level around 450 – 500m.

Still havn’t skied that slope! The Sgurr nan Fhir Duibhe – Creag Dhubh ridge of Beinn Eighe.
