Easter Snow Bunnies

16th April 2017

Lots of ‘Bunnies’ out today enjoying the hills. Light winds and good spells of sunshine. More snow overnight down to 600m, but it quickly thawed at lower levels as it warmed through the day. Good amount of fresh snow remaining above 750m.

Colder again tomorrow, generally cloudy and perhaps some fresh summit snow in the morning, but brightening later. The NNE wind will freshen through the day, with quite a windchill developing.(Above)  Easter car park in Glen Torridon this morning.(Above)  Beinn Eighe ridge and looking into Coire an Laoigh – the brightest area on the right. The cloud lifted periodically in the light winds.(Above)  The classic view of Liathach from Glen Torridon. The snowline is around 650m in this photo.(Above)  Beinn Alligin and Liathach from across Upper Loch Torridon.(Above)  Liathach. The snowline rose up the hillside during the day as the snow thawed at lower levels - increasing air temperatures as a combination of a rising freezing level and the effects of direct sunlight. The north side of the south Torridon/Achnashellach mountains.
